Job Summary

The Network Engineer is responsible for successfully navigating customer business and technical requirements to make timely integration of AutoGrid services with customer networks and devices reliable and secure with minimal effort on the part of the customer.  Good hands on Linux network skills are critical.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and maintain internal documentation, both of processes and of deployed environments
  • Ensure business continuity of configured integrations through documentation and testing of redeployment and restoration of systems

  • Provide standard technical requirements for business to business VPN network integrations

  • Work with customer counterparties to help them understand these requirements and develop solutions where client IT groups cannot accept our standard requirements

  • Personally own the timely success of B2B network integrations

  • Automate maintenance and monitoring functions

  • Provide guidance and feedback to others as they develop software and solutions that require network technology design and troubleshooting

  • Personally own the successful complete solution development and deployment of M2M solutions from requirements gathering to solution design, to deployment and physical installation of remote connectivity devices which require secure, scalable, and reliable connectivity to the AutoGrid platform

  • Manage provisioning tools for wireless data plans and other services used by remote devices

  • Manage process for allocating and routing IP address spaces to edge devices and ensuring that routing and firewalling for these subnets is automated and seamless from the perspective of the AutoGrid applications

  • Document hardware solutions so that others can understand and leverage these solutions

Qualifications and Skills

  • A total of 3-5 years of operational experience in a Linux production network administration role with extensive hands on M2M hardware management experience.

  • Strong practical knowledge of Virtual Private Network (IPsec, OpenVPN), Machine to Machine (cellular gateways used in M2M), and dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc.) on both hardware and Linux platforms

  • 3-5 years of professional experience administering network aspects of Linux or Unix systems.  Good knowledge of tools like tcpdump and netstat, and command of POSIX networking concepts is required.

  • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, and communicate situational awareness to a broader team as multiple concurrent projects are in flight

  • Personal ownership of solutions and their implementation.  Personal investment in the success of customer projects and company initiatives.

  • Excellent communication skills, experience of working as part of a global distributed team
